He's walked the Pennines from end to end, wandered over most English,Welsh and Scottish hills and has a wealth of outdoor experience to draw on. For the past 20 years Andy has looked after the public footpaths around Holmfirth and has a knowledge and love of the intricate path network nurtured through this lifetimes work. Over the past 3 years Andy has built up a growing reputation as a photographer of that special quality of light and mood found here in the Pennines.

THE WALKS
Sled Road

Holmfirth nestles in the rolling green Pennine valley of the River Holme. Our walks explore the valley along an ancient footpath network. Andy has stitched paths and views together which show off the character of this wonderful area.

On Saturday we'll walk about 8 to 10 miles from Holmfirth to the village of Holme which sits at the head of the valley beneath the moorland expanse of Holme Moss. Our walk climbs out of Holmfirth onto the Cliff to head via Wooldale,Paris and Scholes to Hepworth. Here if the Bluebells are in flower we can dip into Morton Wood or we can walk grassy stone walled fields onto Little Cake and Hade Edge. At a thousand feet above sea level there's always a breeze up here. We'll head across to some quiet paths around Moss Edge where the views of valley and moorland require a pause to soak it all in. Before a last mile or so through wood and clough to Holme and The Fleece.

Sunday explores a little used way out of town which climbs up to Hill and Upperthong above.Green Lanes and field paths take us to Hogley Green. There should be lambs about in Spring and wild flowers in the meadows of Flush House where one stone stile follows another to Austonley. We can roll down Hill to lovely Digley and follow the River Holme to Holme Bridge before climbing up the valley side to Holmfirth's own vine yard. From here we've an airy walk back along the escarpment to Holmfirth to complete our 7 miles.

The landscape is steep with cloughs to climb up and down and many drystone walls and stiles to negotiate so you need to be reasonably fit. The pace will be easy because there is usually a good view to enjoy and something to be said. The maximum in one of our groups is 8 walkers and I'm afraid we cannot accommodate children under 16 or dogs.

You will need your own rucksack and refreshments plus waterproofs ,warm clothing and walking boots. A full list will be sent through on booking.
